As we come flying into week number seven, I thought I’d make sure we are all on the same page.

‘Tis The Season…

Last post before sipping nog and watching all the 1960′s Rankin/Bass holiday specials…
Grades have been submitted.
That said, those that did well, congratulations! Those that did not do as well as you would like, hunker down and try harder next semester. Those that did poorly, you earned it.
That probably sounds harsh, but honestly, that is what I have to keep reminding myself when I’m grading. It doesn’t matter if I like you or that you made one great piece, if you ignored the deadlines, did half-assed work, or just didn’t apply yourself, then you got the grade you earned. For those that will complain about the time allotment, it was enough time if managed well; 75 other people were able to make it work. For those that didn’t know where they stood in the class; you are given a grade sheet with the point scale at the bottom and your syllabus tells you how many projects and tests you have; do the math. Lastly; everything has been provided for you to succeed including online information and in-class lab time, if you did not, then you need to ask yourself what you are really doing in higher education. The key is to show up, take notes, and do the work on time. It’s not that difficult. The reality is that those that were sub-par probably won’t read this unless I send them a link because they never bothered to check this page even though I showed it onscreen at the beginning of every class. It’s time to take responsibility for your own actions. Don’t email me with crybaby stories of transfer problems, academic probation, work, home, aliens, etc. because I’m not here to grade those things; that’s not my job. During class, some people had personal issues, and I was willing to work with them, but they still had to do the work.
So if you are still upset, then maybe go back a few posts to read the post that you saw on the first day of class that talks about effort, maybe that will put things in perspective…
Everyone else, I’ll see you next semester! I’m looking forward to seeing you all in some of the advanced classes!
Cheers,
R.
Winding Down…

As the semester’s end creeps up on us all, remember to stay focused and put in every bit of effort into your final projects. For most of you, the next two weeks are primarily lab days, so come prepared to work and use your time wisely.
Other Things:
Don’t forget that you have a one page paper due the penultimate day of class (printed). Also, there is NO PRINTING during finals week. The final critiques only last two hours; feel free to bring food or drink as long as we don’t share any with the mice.
Last day to drop off work for the student photography show is Wednesday November 23rd by 1pm.
Remember, grades are earned…
